Usually, when you want to drive a fast car, you buy something with rear-wheel drive. However, the Honda Civic Type R is showing that that is not always true. Recently, Honda has been showing just how fast a front-wheel drive car can go by testing it out on some of the most challenging tracks.
The latest feat took place at the Hungaroring GP circuit, when the Civic Type R set a new front-wheel drive lap record for a production car. As one of the most technical tracks in Europe, the Hungaroring circuit is 2.72 miles of tight corners, narrow tracks, and twisty roads.
Piloted by former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button, the Civic Type R clocked a time of 2:10.19.
Button remarked on the lap record by saying, “We came here to the Hungaroring, where I won my first F1 race in 2006 with Honda, to set a new front-wheel drive production lap record in the new Type R, and I’m very happy that we did it!”
This was not the first front-wheel drive lap record for the Civic Type R. It also set records at Nürburgring Nordschleife, Magny Cours GP circuit, Spa Francorchamps, Silverstone, and the Estoril circuit.
We at Don Wessel Honda are thrilled to see what the Civic Type R is capable of. You can find it and the other version of the Civic at our car dealership in Springfield Missouri.
