We saw something from Honda at the 2018 SEMA Show that we’ve never seen before: an open air concept vehicle meant for off-roading. The Honda Rugged Open Air Vehicle concept takes inspiration from the Honda Ridgeline and the Honda PowerSports Pioneer.
Honda is not usually known for creating outdoorsy vehicles, but it’s changing that image with this concept and the upcoming Honda Passport, an off-road-capable new SUV.
The Open Air concept showed at SEMA seats four and comes with a spacious cargo bed, adding more practical utility to its high-performance off-roading abilities. It offers standout styling with Honda components like Civic Type R seats that have been weatherproofed for durability in extreme weather conditions. Also included are mounted smartphone holders, painted interior surfaces to withstand the elements, and the Ridgeline’s powerful 3.5-liter V6.
Though the Rugged Open Air Vehicle would be great for mountain drives here in Tennessee, we don’t expect to see it in production any time soon. Honda has not suggested that it’s on its way to showroom floors and has not released any additional details. With the rising interest in off-road vehicles, the ROAV may hit the market in the next few years.
While we wait for additional details, you will find many other cars from the Honda lineup for your on-road adventures at your car dealership in Springfield Missouri, Don Wessel Honda.
