The Civic hatchback has never made it to North America, despite the huge splash the standard Honda Civic has made in the American market. However, as of the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, we’ll be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, when the next-generation Civic Type R hatchback makes it public debut at the event. We at Don Wessel Honda are just as excited as hatchback enthusiasts everywhere to see this long-awaited model come stateside.
We knew this would be coming, considering that when Honda launched the latest generation of its Civic nameplate, representatives promised longtime auto fans that the Type R sport hatch would finally be making its appearance on North American dealer lots. This was followed by a concept version of the new Civic Type R showing up at the following 2016 Paris Motor Show, but until Geneva, we won’t have seen the production-ready model.
The new Honda Civic Type R will start production in the UK this summer. Models will feature a tuned version of the 2.0-liter turbo engine option on the standard Civic that delivers 320 horsepower plus a standard manual transmission. Keep an eye out for the Type R on the dealer lot at Don Wessel Honda.
